Once Cotler Health Care has established a community agreement to provide services for the residents, Dr. Cotler educates key staff members regarding our “identification of need” procedures. One or more trained Licensed Psychologists (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) are carefully chosen to provide services, and copies of their license and liability insurance are provided.
After a resident in need is identified, and the information has been submitted to our office, we check the insurance, including calls to managed care companies to obtain pre-authorization. Guardians are contacted by the Cotler administrative team to provide them with the details about our therapist and program and to obtain signed consents.
Our therapist first conducts an initial assessment/evaluation to determine both the specific needs of the resident, and the appropriateness of treatment. Based on the diagnosis, an individual treatment plan is developed which addresses the psychological status and cognitive level of functioning in many areas, including but not limited to:
Individual counseling is typically provided by our therapists twice weekly for brief sessions or once a week for a standard length session, depending on the individual needs and tolerance level of the individual. The progress of each resident is monitored with each clinical contact and a formal review of treatment goals and objectives is conducted quarterly.

Cotler Healthcare is an amazing organization that truly puts patient needs as their first priority. They are highly ethical, supportive of staff, professional, and very knowledgeable of best practices in the mental health community. I've worked in long term care facilities for several companies in different capacities and Cotler truly goes above and beyond to foster supportive relationships between facility staff, families, and clinicians. I highly recommend them! - Julie Rich, LCSW
